Hollyburn Operates Pet-Friendly Building in Vancouver’s West End
Vancouver, B.C, July 12th, 2013—Hollyburn Properties Limited has reached an agreement to take over the ownership and management of The Breakers apartment building located at 1952 Comox Street in Vancouver’s West End. This 11-storey, 61-unit concrete high-rise represents the first pet-friendly addition to Hollyburn’s expanding national portfolio.
The current owners, Breakers Holdings Ltd., were very pleased to pass along the building to one of Vancouver’s longest standing Canadian-owned and operated property management companies with an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. “We were more than comfortable selling the asset to Hollyburn. We are confident they will look after the property and most importantly, the current residents at the Breakers,” says Mr. Fraeme, a representative from Breakers Holdings Ltd., “It was important that the building is sold to a reputable company.”
Hollyburn’s business model involves purchasing older buildings in a given city’s most coveted and desirable locations and renovating and retrofitting them to a higher standard, thereby offering residents condo-like quality living at a considerable discount, while improving the energy efficiency and longevity of the apartments. Vancouver’s rental stock is 58 years old on average and in desperate need of capital repairs. Determined to provide the residents of the Breakers with the highest quality pet-friendly building, Hollyburn will make necessary cosmetic and capital upgrades to the 49-year-old property, ensuring a high standard of safety and convenience is maintained—irrespective of the cost.
Improving the building with facilities such as a pet-washing station, an outdoor off-leash area and a community garden are some of the options Hollyburn is looking at initiating with the consent of the residents and permission from the City of Vancouver. Carpeted hallways will be upgraded, common areas will be modernized and units will be renovated upon turnover with energy-efficient appliances according to the company’s “Smart Suite” green standard.
